‘Dancing with the Stars 22’ spotlight: Will Wanya Morris, Lindsay Arnold avoid the end of the road for a while?

Wanya -

Yes, please excuse us for the terrible Boyz II Men song lyric joke that’s probably been done a billion or so times now, and let’s go ahead and get into the real meat of this article: Spotlighting Wanya Morris, and speculating as to whether or not we think he is someone who could go a long way on this season of “Dancing with the Stars.” He’s an interesting contender given that he’s so well-known, but despite his musical history, we’re not sure how well he can dance. This one should be interesting.

Claim to fame – He has spent almost 30 years of his life as a part of Boyz II Men, one of the most prominent vocal groups of the late eighties and early nineties. Their music is still popular, with “End of the Road” and “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” being two of the more-popular hits. The group has been performing all over the place lately, so we wonder if that will continue going into the season.

Partner – Lindsay Arnold. She’s still relatively new to the show as a pro. This is her third time with a celebrity partner after Alek Skarlatos in the fall and Victor Ortiz back during the 16th season of the show. She’s also an alumni of “So You Think You Can Dance” alongside fellow pro / good friend Witney Carson.

Strengths – Wanya’s going to be popular just from a nostalgia point of view right away, and many of his group’s songs could be perfect for the ballroom. He’ll have plenty of famous friends helping him campaign, and we think that he’ll be really funny based on some of what we’ve seen online. Humor + understanding the crowd go a long way in this competition.

Weaknesses – One of the bigger things holding Wanya back may merely be that there are so many people on this season that are super-relevant in the now, and he’s going to have to compete with Jodie Sweetin and Kim Fields for some of the nostalgia votes (though they also have some other projects). Also, singers have had a little bit of a mixed track record on the show.

Prediction – We don’t think that we could call Wanya a favorite at the moment just because he’s too much of a question mark when it comes to this particular environment. However, we do think that he’ll easily be a fan favorite and this will get to show off his personality in a big way.
