‘Ink Master’ season 7, episode 3 review: Sausage arrives for a comic book clash
Tonight, “Ink Master” may have brought us one of our favorite Elimination Challenges that we’ve had a chance to see over the course of the series’ run … mostly because of the sole fact that we were seeing the artists have to draw tattoos that were comic-book versions of their own canvases.
After Christian Buckingham and Megan Jean Morris won the salt-based Flash Challenge, Sausage entered the competition and gave everyone their Elimination Challenge assignment. Sausage’s one of our favorite contestants in the history of the series; he’s just so even-keeled, and there are so few people out there in this competition who don’t feel the need to constantly scream and be confrontational. In an interesting move, Christian decided to give Sausage (who he works for outside of the show) a good canvas, thinking that he was going to nail this competition regardless and he didn’t want to waste his time trying to eliminate him. That made Christian’s allies rather upset, thinking that he was choosing Sausage over him.
In the end, Christian probably made the right move, given that Sausage almost won the challenge. (The victor ended up being Anthony Michaels, who continues to dominate doing some great work.) Another big surprise? St. Marq, who drew lines and used color, effectively proving that he is diversifying this season.
Unfortunately for Cleen Rock One, he found himself in the bottom with Ashley Velazquez and Picasso Dular over a tattoo that simply didn’t look great. However, his technique was better than Ashley and Picasso’s, and that is why he wasn’t in enormous danger of going home. the judges ultimately determined that this was Ashley’s time to go, mostly because she had been in the bottom before. Sooner or later, her time was going to run out … and it did this week. We do wish that the newbies could get it together! Episode Grade: B+.
