NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Jared Harder, Jonathan Hutcherson, Katie Basden end blind auditions

VoiceTonight’s new episode of “The Voice” is a little strange in comparison to some of the ones that we’ve seen over the course of the season so far. Specifically, what we mean by this is that the show is as a whole going to be split up into two separate parts. The first part of this story will be focused almost entirely on Blind Auditions, while from there we will be embarking our transition over to talking about some Battle Rounds.

We’ll have some more updates in this article on the auditions soon, so stay tuned! We’ll be creating a separate one when the battles begin.

Jared Harper, “Merry Go ‘Round” – This was a classic country audition. We’re not going to say that it was the strongest audition that we’ve ever heard, but it was also far from the weakest. Only one coach turned around, but it made sense given that this is the coach he would’ve went with anyway. Team Blake.

Moushumi, “Wicked Game” – This performance had bit of an airy feel to it. There were some nice moments in here, but at the same time we’re not entirely sure it will stand out in the Battle Rounds enough for her to move forward to the Knockouts. Ultimately, we shall see. Team Pharrell.

Katie Basden, “Midnight Rider” – Adam Levine got his final team member here courtesy of a woman with a gritty, soulful, and different voice. Usually near the end of the blinds we have a ton of singers who aren’t particularly memorable, but we’re feeling Katie’s vibe and think she could stay a while. Team Adam.

Jonathan Hutcherson, “You and I” – Voters are going to really like him. His voice isn’t super-powerful, but he’s sweet and relatable. It’ll be easy for him to connect with voters, especially if he chooses some songs that have an emotional tinge to them. Team Pharrell.

Ayanna Jahnee, “Skyfall” – Easily the most nervous contestant we heard tonight, but also maybe the one with the most potential. There’s a great voice here underneath the surface! The problem is just that she has a lot of pitch issues and control problems that she needs help with. Maybe Christina can be an asset. Team Christina.
