‘Reign,’ ‘Supernatural,’ ‘The 100,’ ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,’ EVERYTHING else renewed by The CW
Clearly, today is a great day if you are a fan of almost anything on The CW. After all, the network just went ahead and renewed every single thing that is on the network’s schedule at present.
Basically, here are the shows now confirmed to be coming back for additional seasons: “Jane the Virgin,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “The Flash,” “iZombie,” “Supernatural,” “Arrow,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” “The 100,” “Reign,” “The Vampire Diaries,” and “The Originals.” Out of this group, there are a couple of surprises. We were wondering slightly if the network would wait on “The 100” after some of the recent backlash surrounding a significant character death, and also if “The Originals” would be biting the dust due to its own lower ratings.
Also, we wondered if The CW would choose to eliminate one of their CBS TV-produced shows in “Jane,” “Crazy Ex,” or “Reign” given that none of them are ratings warriors. Luckily, two of them are critically acclaimed, and the network as a whole likes to keep a balance between this studio and Warner Bros. TV.
Why did they renew so many shows? There’s a school of thought out there that maybe they want to just show confidence in their current programming, but there’s another school of thought that maybe there is a lack of confidence in their current pilots. (We do think that Archie Comics adaptation “Riverdale” will happen.) Some of these renewals could be for shorter orders to accommodate new shows, and we wouldn’t be shocked if something like “Reign” was moved to summer.
