‘Royal Pains’ season 8 will be show’s last; premiere date revealed

The following bit of news certainly brings a frown to our face: It looks like we will be checking out of the Hamptons once and for all on USA’s “Royal Pains.”

Today, it was announced that the upcoming eight-episode eighth season, premiering on Wednesday, May 18 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time, will be the last for the show on the air. This isn’t really a shock; the moment that seasons seven and eight were announced as being so short, it was easy to make the assumption that this would be the end. Also, star Feuerstein has been involved in pilot season, and it felt like the timing here was right. This is really the final show in what we’d consider the heart of the network’s “Characters Welcome” era. This was a time when most of their shows were light and breezy, and some of our favorite programs from “Monk” to “Psych” to “Burn Notice” were still on the air. “Suits” to us was really the first show to represent some sort of seismic shift in thinking to fare that was a little more dramatic and serious.

In a statement, executive producers Andrew Lenchewski and Michael Rauch had the following to say:

“It’s with great sadness, but even greater thankfulness, that we prepare for our final summer sunsets, as Royal Pains comes to an end … We want to thank our [entire] network and studio family for tirelessly supporting us over eight magical seasons, and more importantly, for giving us the opportunity to complete this series on our own terms. We’ll always have The Hamptons.”

Now, we’ll just have to wait and see whether or not Hank, Evan, Divya, and the rest of the crew have their happy endings. We’ll have plenty more in the way of news about it as it starts to come out, so stay tuned!
