‘Doctor Who’ season 10: Peter Capaldi claims he has been asked to stay on with new showrunner

Doctor WhoAt the moment, it is clear that Steven Moffat will be saying his farewell to “Doctor Who” after so many years with the show following its upcoming tenth season; with that in mind, there has been certainly some suspicion that star Peter Capaldi could follow him out the door. This is his final season on contract with the show, and typically we don’t see Doctors stay longer than three or four years with the franchise.

Chris Chibnall has been appointed already to be the new shorunner for the series, and as Capaldi tells the Radio Times, he has actually be asked to stay on during the transition:

“I’ve been asked to stay on, but it’s such a long time before I have to make that decision … Steven’s been absolutely wonderful, so I love working with him. Chris is fantastic, and I think he’s a hugely talented guy.”

Do we think that Capaldi could stick around? In theory sure, but he is under no real obligation to do so. In the end, he’ll just make whatever decision is right for him and his career at the time. He’s surely going to get a bevy of other offers, so there is no real incentive for him to stay put other than just him really liking the role. As a longtime fan of the franchise, we certainly do know that he enjoys playing the part very much, even if it is very demanding in terms of his schedule.
