‘Call the Midwife’ season 5 finale: Sister Evangelina shocker leads to higher ratings

Call the Midwife -

There are several things that the BBC has to be rather pleased about at the moment when it comes to “Call the Midwife,” and to us one of the larger ones has to be the way that this show can somehow continue to be so strong and stable year after year. There are so many different shows out there at the moment who would beg to retain even 90% of their show’s audience one year after the next, but somehow this one finds a way to even improve for a few moments here and there.

Take, for instance, the finale that aired on Sunday night. Perhaps buoyed by news that there would be a major character death in the episode (which turned out to be the character of Sister Evangelina), the series managed to score in total 9.2 million viewers as a whole. This is a whopping 500,000 more people than the audience for the season 4 finale, and it further proves that this is a show that is likely not going anywhere in the near future. Who knows? Maybe a seventh season could happen.

Even before the finale, it was clear that there was a long life ahead for the show still. It had already been renewed for a sixth season by the BBC, and we imagine that those new episodes are going to start filming a little bit later this year. The story will begin with a Christmas Special, and hopefully we will have some further news on that soon.

If you did happen to miss the finale and you’re hunting for a rather succinct review of what transpired, just be sure to head over to this link right now!
