TV Madness: ‘Law & Order: SVU,’ ‘Daredevil’ square off in close match
We now only have three more face-offs to profile in our TV Madness tournament this month … at least for the first round! Today, we’re specifically looking at two shows that really couldn’t be any more different. The only things that they have in common is that in many ways, both feature heroes who are trying to make New York City a better place in their own way. One in “Daredevil” wears a costume, and the men and women of “Law & Order: SVU” put on a badge every day that they are at work.
So who shall remain on top? We really do think that this is going to be a close, contentious race, and that is part of what makes this so exciting! We’ve seeded these two teams in a way that signifies that they are pretty evenly-matched, just like they would be in any sort of basketball tournament.
As the image above (click to expand) explains, voting for this and for all of the other first-round shows will end on March 10 at 12:00 p.m. Pacific time.
“Law & Order: SVU” (4) – This show has the sort of passionate fan base that any program out there would want. We’ve boasted about it being able to actually improve its ratings year-to-year, but it is a really rare feat given the trajectory of many shows on network TV these days. The cases remain powerful, but also of course relevant to present day. This is a show that is also seeing a spike of attention at the moment thanks to the shocking transfer of Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) at the end of this past episode; we imagine that for the remainder of this season, we’re going to see her try to work her way back to the SVU. Eventually it will probably happen, but it could be a struggle here and there along the way.
“Daredevil” (5) – Meanwhile, the Netflix series is as gritty and action-packed as any superhero show comes. It’s intense, dramatic, and different than most other things out there in the genre. It’s also gearing up for a second season for the ages, given that it appears as though we are getting set to see both Elektra and The Punisher in Hell’s Kitchen. Both of them have some ideological differences from how Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) perceives the world, and there should be some rather interesting drama that comes as a result of that.
