‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12, episode 12 reaction: April’s secret, Meredith and Riggs’ past play out
Can you overcome some of your past mistakes and find a way to move forward? If there was ever a themed episode of “Grey’s Anatomy,” we would argue that this was for the most part it. We don’t think that this will be an hour necessarily that everyone remembers down the road, but it was important for getting some storylines from point A to point B.
For example, we do know a little bit more about Owen’s sister, and how Riggs feels about everything that transpired so many years ago. He started to open up on the subject, but eventually bristled on it to Meredith in the end. Obviously, there are still some hurt feelings, no? That’s something that still has to play out, but at this point there is nothing that Riggs can do to change what transpired.
Elsewhere in this episode, Maggie and Webber had a heart-to-heart to help her dating life, Arizona got back on the market with some tips of her own from Webber, and we started to see more of the secret that April is keeping regarding her pregnancy. Who thinks that this will end well? Sure, it’s possible that she and Jackson could make something work again, but she does need to come clean at some point in order for that to happen. It’s like with Jo and Alex, as they need to figure something out here if they want their relationship to work.
In the end, we thought that this was an effective episode that brought about many entertaining storylines, but also some heartbreaking ones as well from a patient perspective. In the end, Meredith tried to teach her students about learning from mistakes and using the past, and this came mere minutes after seeing once again the ghost of Derek in her head.
