‘Doctor Who’ season 10 rumor: Could Rakhee Thakrar be the new Companion?
Considering all the hype that was mad back before Peter Capaldi was hired to play Twelve on “Doctor Who,” we’ve actually been somewhat-surprised that there has not been more hype than there has been when it comes to who will be appearing as the next Companion on the BBC series. Jenna Coleman departed as Clara at the end of season 9, and as a result of that there has been at least some sort of scramble from a production point of view in order to figure out just who the next major character could be.
Now, have we found an answer to this particular question? It certainly seems so, given that Rakhee Thakrar is rumored to be taking on the role. According to the Radio Times, the “EastEnders” actress has at least discussed the role in some capacity, though nothing is set in stone just yet.
We’re not altogether familiar with Thakrar’s work, so more than anything else we just hope that if it is her or anyone else, there has been some extensive testing done to ensure that she is the right fit. There needs to be good chemistry with Capaldi, and we also want to see a personality that is different from Clara, Amy Pond, or any other recent Companion.
One other thing that needs to be remembered here, as well, is that this Companion could end up being an important cog in the entire future of the franchise. With showrunner Steven Moffat leaving after season 10 and with Capaldi possibly joining him, it is possible that the Companion could be the only remnant sticking around for season 11. (You can read more about some of the switches presumably coming there over here.)
