‘Scorpion’ season 2, episode 19 review: ‘Ticker’ keeps on ticking
Last time on “Scorpion” we saw Happy really struggling with giving her full trust over to Toby, especially when his gambling was starting to overwhelm her. He’s now promised her that he’s never going to gamble again, but as much as we want to believe it (and so does Happy), we aren’t sure that he can really go cold turkey like that. Will it be a struggle for him or will his love for Happy be enough?
Well, for “Ticker” this week we were given a little bit of a break from most of the romantic subplots (not that we really asked for one) for what was an action-packed but largely filler episode that revolved first and foremost around a quest to ensure that the spread of a blood virus (not the Lady Gaga kind from “American Horror Story: Hotel”) was not going to spread across Los Angeles. It took the entire village to shut down transfusions and find an answer, but of course the team saved the day.
The scenes between Walter O’Brien and young Olivia, who was almost the face of many of those struggling this episode, were the true highlight. There was a tough of Ralph in the Olivia character thanks to her knowledge, but it did also remind us slightly of the love that Walter did show in brief moments with his late sister. It’s not easy for him to show that sort of love, but when he does it really means something.
So we’re left waiting now for most of the other major stories to carry through this season, whether it be Happy / Toby or Walter / Paige, which has really been on the backburner. The reality here is this: 24 episodes is a long time to do a season. It’s impossible that you’re going to have important events in every episode. Sometimes, you just have to be happy with a race against time and the silliness of the Scorpion Olympics, and with that we’re rather pleased with this hour overall. Episode grade: B.
