Oscars 2016: Stacey Dash, Tracy Morgan, Whoopi Goldberg show up in Chris Rock bit

We knew that Chris Rock was going to start off the Oscars this year by touching on the controversy in his opening monologue. However, what we did not anticipate seeing from there was a segment featuring black actors randomly showing up in “clips” from some of the most-nominated movies of the year. This was completely silly and funny for the most part … but the ending fell completely flat.

Let’s start off by saying we have no idea who thought it would be good to have Stacey Dash turn up as the end as the new “director” at the end of the sketch. It was obviously a joke that she was in on about how she could be one of the worst people for it, given some of her recent comments regarding the #OscarsSoWhite drama and also BET to go along with it. Other than that awkward ending (which just wasn’t right for this show tonally, especially since not everyone may have been aware of Dash’s comments on Fox News), there were a few other great moments.

1. Seeing Tracy Morgan show up in a spoof for “The Danish Girl.”

2. The running gag where Whoopi Goldberg showed up in multiple movies.

3. Getting to see Rock star in a spoof of “The Martian” in his own right. This was another great performance by the host, who we feel like has done a really tremendous job all night towing the line between being hard-hitting at the Academy and also supportive of some of their efforts.
