‘Gotham’ episode 12 preview: Nathan Darrow, Ben McKenzie on Victor Fries’ arrival
We never quite thought we’d be as excited as we are to see a villain like Mr. Freeze on “Gotham.” Anytime we hear his name, we automatically think of one of the corniest things possible, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger from “Batman & Robin.” This is a character who is cold literally and figuratively, so as a result of that he’s not the easiest person in the world to be attached to.
With that being said, we do have an inkling that this is going to be changing in some way based on the way in which Nathan Darrow, Robin Lord Taylor, Ben McKenzie, and others describe the character in the new sneak peek below for Monday night’s new episode. Specifically, they talk at length about some of the struggles that go into crafting such a nefarious character, including how he is someone who really starts out in a kinder, more-genuine place only to later descend into darkness. He wants to save his wife, and that is something that many people would want to do. He only chooses to go about it in the darkest ways possible.
We specifically like that it seems as though there are some freaky / scary elements to what the show is willing to do with this character, and anytime that we see something like this happen we are going to be rather thrilled. We dig it when a network show like this is unafraid of being so big and so bold.
One other reason that you should be stoked to see what happens next is simply that Fries is far from the only villain making his presence felt over the course of the remaining episodes. You should also expect none other than Hugo Strange to have plenty of time in the limelight.
