‘How to Get Away with Murder’ season 2, episode 12 review: Wes and Laurel’s big hour
For the most part, we consider “How to Get Away with Murder” a show all about the company that you keep. For some characters, it’s clearly starting to make them realize that it’s time to move on.
When it comes to Connor, for example, do you really blame the guy for wanting to go to Stanford? He can try to make his relationship last over there, and you can also get away from Annalise Keating. If we were any character on this show, we’d run in the other direction for all of this murder drama. There’s nothing to gain by being in this position anymore.
As for Frank and Laurel’s relationship, that seems pretty much done now … and for good reason. Learning that you’re with a murderer isn’t really something that makes you want to continue to pursue things. We’d say that at the moment, things between these two are comatose, and Laurel moved on tonight to some other big things … whether it be kissing Wes (seemingly a mistake for now) to helping him figure out how to learn about what happened to his mother.
Nothing could prepare us, though, for what she found without Wes’ knowledge: Supposed evidence that Wes killed his mother himself, which would explain more of why there is such a dark secret being kept here. How much he remembers and how much Annalise knows are both key questions … and we’re not sure anyone wants to be in the company of Wes for much longer.
Really, we consider most of Annalise’s story this week to be somewhat ho-hum beyond her trying to defy Philip’s blackmail threats. Yes, we know that they are going to try and use the lack of a timestamp to get what she wants, but after seeing everything that’s going on with Wes, and with Laurel finally getting a huge episode for a change, we find it rather hard to concentrate. Grade: B+.
