‘Saturday Night Live’: Ariana Grande to host, perform on March 12 show

SNL -Ariana Grande certainly has no problem becoming a larger part of “Saturday Night Live” lore. After all, the singer and former Nickelodeon star will be hosting and performing on the upcoming March 12 episode.

Is this the right move for the show to hand over the entire reigns of a show to Grande? That’s to be seen, but the show has a knack for taking these kind of risks with singers here and there. We’ve seen them do it with Bruno Mars, just as we’ve also seen it with Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus. Two out of the three actually turned out to be very good in this position, with the one exception being Bieber’s show which was mostly uncomfortable to watch in terms of humor.

For Grande, the good news is that this is going to be a really good opportunity to prove herself as an actress much as she did on “Scream Queens.” Casual viewers may not really know her on “Victorious” or “Sam and Cat,” and those shows have a pretty parallel experience to “SNL” in that they were both performed in front of audiences on similar stages. That’s one of the reason Miley was so good, and why the producers were so keen to use former Disney stars Demi Lovato in Selena Gomez for at least cameos at some point this season.

The NBC show is returning with new episodes on March 5 with one hosted by Jonah Hill, who is returning for his fourth stint in the spot.
