‘Shark tank’ preview: BetterBack, Linka, Teaspressa, Glace Cryotherapy, and PiperWai
Tomorrow night will bring an all-new episode of “Shark Tank,” and one that will contain a number of products that are meant in some way to help you. You’ve got something to improve your posture, something to make sure your bike is not stolen, something to help you recover from injuries, and then finally something to simply help your taste buds.
As always with these episodes, let’s start off by sharing the attached synopsis from this hour:
“A woman from Las Vegas, NV gets the Sharks to sit up straight and think about investing in her product that can relieve back pain; a brother and sister team from Carmel, CA, who call themselves the “Ice Siblings,” have a cool way to reduce inflammation in the body; a mechanical engineer from Emeryville, CA hopes to lock in a deal with his high-tech bike lock; and it’s tea time for the sharks as a woman from Goodyear, AZ shares her passion about her gourmet tea shots that can be prepared just like espresso drinks. Also, an update on Jess Edelstein and Sarah Ribner from Philadelphia, PA and PiperWai, an all-natural deodorant made from activated charcoal, in which Barbara Corcoran invested in during Season Seven.”
Glace Cryotherapy – There are some people who do try to diminish the benefits of cryotherapy for pain relief and other issues. We’re not one of them. While we haven’t used it, we’ve read enough on the subject to think that it is a useful, legitimate solution to help many people. The problem with this particular business is that we’re not so sure what makes it different than what other people are doing other than that they may be trying to establish a brand-name. Franchise businesses often struggle to get traction in the Tank, and this could be the case here.
BetterBack – We don’t have the best posture in the world, so with that in mind we feel like this is a fairly simple way to take care of a need. The design seems intuitive, and we like that the objective here is to help ultimately train you so that eventually, you don’t even need to use it. Granted, $59 is a somewhat-steep price point for a product that we feel would sell a lot better if it was going for $39, especially in an infomercial market where this could be successful.
Linka – Love the idea. Bike locks are a pain. You have to bring them with you, hope that nobody gets the combination right, and sometimes it can be a time-consuming process. This lock is a smart, intuitive way to fix some of the problems. The app will auto-unlock your bike when you walk close to it, inform you of potential theft, and even tell you dangerous areas where there are a variety of frequent thefts. The one downside? You’re spending more than $150 on it with the chain included. If you’re a casual rider, you’re not going to want to spend that kind of money.
Teaspressa – It’s a way to get some of the flavor and feel of drinking a handcrafted coffee beverage, while at the same time enjoying some of the health benefits of a tea. Basically, this is a nice mix of a couple of different things that should appeal to some caffeine lovers / people out there who like fancy beverages. It’s a cool idea, but we see the challenge here mostly in educated people in what it is, how to drink it, and why they should want it.
