‘American Idol 15’ review: MacKenzie Bourg, Avalon Young, Jenn Blosil fight for spot in top 10

American Idol -Earlier on “American Idol” tonight, the judges decided that the likes of La’Porsha Renae, Trent Harmon, Olivia Rox, and Dalton Rappatoni were all worthy of making it into the top 10. Now, it’s America’s choice to name the remaining six.

We’re going to do something a little bit different tonight. For the sake of fun, we’re going to rank from first to last the artists who should be put through to the next round by the voting power.

1. MacKenzie Bourg, “Roses” – Probably not the strongest voice, but an excellent performer and a guy who really interprets his music and lyrics well.

2. Avalon Young, “Yo (Excuse Me Miss)” – A true original for this show. Someone with a signature style and quiet confidence.

3. Jenn Blosil, “True Colors” – She’s been a little hit-or-miss, but this performance showed off everything great that her voice has to offer.

4. Manny Torres, “Master Blaster” – He was stuck early in the show and that hurts him, but we do think there’s significant talent and style there.

5. Sonika Vaid, “I Surrender” – This is a vote based on the total package this season rather than the pageant-esque Celine Dion cover tonight.

6. Jeneve Rose Mitchell, “Ring of Fire” – A vote for uniqueness. We don’t always love her, but she’s interesting.

7. Tristan McIntosh, “What Hurts the Most” – She has talent, but there’s a consistency lacking week to week.

8. Lee Jean, “Make It Rain” – A decent performance tonight, but we’ve never found him altogether memorable.

9. Thomas Stringfellow, “Story of My Life” – Blame the judges for this one, and for nobody telling him that the “yips” are now go. Without them, he’d be so much stronger.

10. Gianna Isabella, “I Put a Spell on You” – She has natural talent, but was put on this show way before she was ready. Yes, we know it’s the last season, but still.
