‘NCIS’ season 14: What bosses are hoping for with new regular
The producers of “NCIS” have a little bit of a challenge at the moment when it comes to getting viewers excited about season 14. It will be the first to not feature Michael Weatherly as a regular, so they need to make some sort of a splash to ensure that the show does not suffer without DiNozzo around.
How can they do that? Apparently, one way is by making sure that they have a notable new cast member coming in. One of the new characters being cast is a woman named Tess, and according to TVLine, the dream is to find someone so big a name that it will shock people. The example that the site gives is Halle Berry appearing on “Extant” for the sort of surprise that producers are going for.
As for whether or not they can find someone like a film actress looking to transition to TV, that remains to be seen … but they do probably have money on their side. Given that Weatherly earned a generous amount of cash per episode, offering up something similar to a big-name actress may be enough to convince someone to jump at this opportunity. We don’t even want to speculate on who it could or should be, mostly because it’d be akin to picking a needle out of a haystack. All we are hoping for at the moment is that it is someone who will be able to get viewers legitimately excited.
We could meet this new person, whoever they are, before we get to the end of this season. That way, there’s at least some sort of introduction in advance.

Even if they snag their big name actress as “Tess” the female Gibbs, I won’t be back. They wrote Tony so abysmally for so long that I have no desire to watch season 14’s incarnation of the Gibbs Show.

Here, here. Tony’s character has been turned into a joke. There have been so many times where the writers could have put some depth into the actors scenes, that we’ve long since given up. I’m watching this season to see Tony out – which I suspect will be spectacularly uninteresting and much like him popping out for coffee, and forgetting to come back…. I won’t be back for season 14 even if you got Angelina Jolie to become the latest joke for McGee and Gibbs to blatantly mock. It’s become beyond absurd. A senior field agent being maligned and sidelined continually, would not only never happen, but if it did – you would change job. Maybe that’s why he’s leaving? Maybe they’re not all great friends, like you keep trying to tell us. I don’t even know why I bother to write this, no one is even interested in what die-hard fans are saying…
