‘Teen Wolf’ season 5, episode 18 review: Meet the Beast of Gevaudan
You have definitely been waiting for a long time to see the “Teen Wolf” flashback episode “The Maid of Gevaudan,” one that was set to reveal an answer to one of the season’s biggest memories: Who was the Beast?
In the past, we know that it was none other than Gilles Marini’s Sebastien, the brother of Marie-Jeanne (Crystal Reed, back on the show). It took a great period of time to understand it was him behind so many of the killings. Eventually Marie-Jeanne tracked him down and killed him, and by the time we made it to the end of this story, one thing was clear: It needed to be a team effort to track down the Beast, and they had to do this to stop him before the Beast was able to remember his true being. If that happened, the person inside the shadow could be gone for good.
Also, of course Marie-Jeanne can be traced back to the Argent family! If that was not the case, it wouldn’t be anywhere near as interesting.
Now that we’ve said all of this, we’ve clearly spent enough time making you wait, and it now feels appropriate to go ahead and just state the truth: Mason is the Beast. It was discovered courtesy of some bloody shoes at the very end, and this certainly changes the game for Mason, and by extension of course Liam and many of his friends in Beacon Hills. As for just how much he knows, what this means, and the plans for the final two episodes of the season, let’s just say to be prepared for some craziness. Things are about to heat up. Episode Grade: A-.
