‘The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story’ episode 4 preview: Enter the courtroom

People -

While the beginnings of the case on “The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story” are important, we don’t want to even pretend that they had the same sort of cultural impact as the trial did itself. This was when the public’s attention really start to be firmly on the subject of Simpson, especially because the trial lasted for so long. Many of the other events lasted mere days, but this was an ongoing process and something that required numerous attorneys and camera crews from all over California.

The promo below for Tuesday night’s all-new episode provides a slight sense of some of the hysteria that formed around the trial, and also some of how the people involved reacted to it. As Johnnie Cochran lectures to Simpson, he is still somewhat oblivious of the cultural impact that this case is having on people. To many of them, it’s an imperative part of their lives and they are watching it for so many reasons. Some of them want to see if Simpson is truly guilty, and others want to say that part of the narrative is either his celebrity status or his race.

Sure, we’re not going to say that this limited series so far is perfect (too many Kardashians; Cuba Gooding Jr. and John Travolta aren’t trying too hard to sound like their counterparts), but at the same time we feel like the writers and performers are giving their all. This is one of the best things currently on the air.
