‘The Amazing Race 28’ episode 2 review: Chaos in Colombia
The second episode of “The Amazing Race 28” started off by doing something we really appreciated: Heading to a country that is (shockingly) new to the show in Colombia. What happened from here were a series of chaotic and often crazy events.
The first thing that we did really love about this hour were the challenges. The searching-through-mud Roadblock is always a crowd-pleaser, even if it didn’t exactly show off a lot of the local culture. It also incentivized teams to get there quickly, since it would be easier to find some of the emeralds hidden in there (or at least so we think). Marty & Hagan fell behind Darius & Cameron after Hagan couldn’t find what she was looking for; the brothers / Vine stars just didn’t have much of an assertive attitude at the airport, and this came back to haunt them in a pretty huge way.
The Detour was also rally fun, especially since it showed off the beach culture pretty amazingly. It was fun, and even when there was drama (see Dana & Matt having a few tense arguments), they still got the task done. Tyler & Korey were extremely impressive from start to finish here. They’re not scrambling, they’re making smart decisions, and it seems like they are taking their time. We thought they’d be good, but this good? We didn’t see that coming so early. Kurt & Brodie, who had an early lead, ended up finishing in second.
When looking to the back of the pack, massive kudos to Scott & Blair for overcoming a Speed Bump and sticking around! This all came down to Darius & Cameron versus Marty & Hagan, with the former team making a series of pretty odd mistakes beyond just the airport. We really don’t understand why they did the fish-making Detour versus setting up the tent, They’re both really young guys, and they’ve gotten learn from some of their mistakes.
Ultimately, they’re lucky to get another chance. Marty & Hagan made an even more critical mistake in abandoning their taxi far away from the Detour, and the amount of time they had to run to place to place cost them. Credit at least to the show for making this reasonably unpredictable until the final minutes, as we actually believed they were going to get their cab and check in before Darius & Cameron finished the Detour. Grade: B+.
