Ratings: ‘Legends of Tomorrow,’ ‘Scandal,’ ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ all slide; ‘The 100’ season 3 steady

LegendsAre we starting to hit the spring ratings doldrums a little earlier than usual this year? After looking at some of the numbers that have just come out for Thursday’s lineup, we certainly are starting to think so. When you don’t really have any news about shows making week-to-week improvements, it makes writing these reports almost depressing.

The “winners” – By this, we mostly mean “shows that held their audience.” “The 100” (0.5) did hold on to the entirety of its rating from the week before, and the same for now goes to “Life in Pieces” (2.1) and a poignant episode of “Mom” (1.8) that was promoted as a can’t miss. That’s most of the good news that we have for you, unless you consider “The Big Bang Theory” winning the night with a 3.7 good news. (It’s an awesome rating still, but it’s down slightly versus last week.)

The losers – Five episodes in, and “Legends of Tomorrow” (0.8) still hasn’t found its footing entirely. It’s a show that has its moments, but it needs a little more in the way of stakes beyond just traveling around to stop Vandal Savage temporarily in a given time period.

Elsewhere, what in the world is happening to #TGIT? All of a sudden, people seem to be getting off the Shondaland roller coaster. “Grey’s Anatomy” (2.2) was a clear victor for ABC among the three shows, but “Scandal” (1.7) and “How to Get Away with Murder” (1.4) each plummeted more than 20% versus their winter premieres. Our feeling is this: It’s hard to sustain a series when you make so much of the billing around providing “OMG moments” time and time again. Sooner or later, some people are going to lose interest and they will be numb to the surprises.
