‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 6, episode 14 review: Is Jane too protective for her own good?
After the winter premiere of “Rizzol & Isles” on TNT this week really brought the intensity up to 11, it was nice to see the second episode take at least a little bit of a different approach: Still giving us drama, but also mixing it in with some humor and character moments that the show is known for.
This is why we feel like “Murderjuana” was about as perfect as a follow-up to the premiere as you could have, and it was probably smart for TNT to air these two episodes back to back. One story really did an excellent job of bleeding into the next, at least in that here we saw Jane really stressing over Maura’s kidnapping even more than she was. She wanted to ensure that both Isles and Angela were protected, but went so far with it that it made some other characters struggle to handle it. Ultimately, Jane has to get to a position where she is not blaming herself for what happened, but as anyone knows this can often be so much easier said than done when the dust settles.
At least to go along with this we had a really funny pot-centered case that included everything from Vince pretending to be a dealer to Jane and Maura having to try a little bit of the product themselves to over-the-top results. For the most part, the case was pure filler, but that’s fine when it gives you a chance to laugh a little bit. As a matter of fact, TNT and other networks turning their back on the fun case-of-the-week in favor for darker arthouse fare is rather frustrating in that there is something joyous that comes from comfort TV.
Look at us, already starting to get all bummed-out that this show is ending after the upcoming seventh season, even though we are more than aware already that there are still more episodes to come this season, as well. Grade: B+.
