‘Supergirl’ spoilers: Laura Vandervoot on playing Indigo, working Melissa Benoist

Supergirl -

The moment that “Supergirl” cast Laura Vandervoot in a guest-starring role as the villain Indigo, they knew precisely what they were doing. This was a very specific nod back to “Smallville,” the last American show to have a live-action version of this character. Vandervoot played the part there, and inevitably there were some people clamoring for her to get the part on the CBS; that didn’t happen as Melissa Benoist is now the one behind Kara Zor-El, but it certainly seems like she is happy to be a part of this universe.

Speaking on the subject of this role in a new chat with Collider, here is what Vandervoot had to say:

“Of course, it’s a little strange, but at the same time, it’s a new show and it’s a different character. It’s not the same Supergirl. She just has the same name and history, but they’re portraying her differently than we did on Smallville. I think it’s great. I think it’s nice to change things up. It is a lot of fun. It’s a wink at the audience when I’m with Melissa [Benoist] in a scene, with everyone knowing that history. It’s great.”

We’re definitely happy that she is getting to play a part here, and ideally our wish is that we would get a chance to see more people from the “Smallville” world be able to come over here and do something. Is a Tom Welling appearance at some point in here too much to ask? We don’t think so.
