TV Quick Hits: ‘Ray Donovan’ season 4, ‘Wayward Pines’ season 2 castings; ‘UnREAL’ alum joins ABC pilot
For the sake of today’s TV Quick Hits, we’re talking all about castings! Let’s dive right in.
“Wayward Pines” gets Djimon Hounsou – If there was ever a great casting for the Fox series, this is it! The Oscar nominee is set to, per Deadline, play a very important season 2 role in CJ Mitchum, a town historian who could change the fate of many within Wayward Pines. This casting is potentially going to be one of the new ways in which Fox can reinvigorate this series, which became a little bit of a cult hit in its first season, and got a renewal even in spite of it getting previously a “limited series” billing.
“Ray Donovan” gets Lisa Bonet – The casting for this show continues to be as eclectic as always. We already knew about “Revenge” alum Gabriel Mann coming on this season, and now TVLine reports that Lisa Bonet is also going to be appearing as Marisol, a woman who may be harboring some rather big secrets. Season 4 should premiere this summer.
Freddie Stroma signs on for ABC pilot – Fresh off of playing Adam Cromwell on Lifetime’s excellent “UnREAL” (and an upcoming turn as Sam’s brother on “Game of Thrones” season 6), Freddie Stroma may be finding a little bit of a more permanent gig over at ABC … provided that the pilot “Time After Time” gets picked up. It’s a loose adaptation of the Karl Alexander book executive-produced by Kevin Williamson, and in it Stroma is going to play a time-traveling H.G. Wells. We like the idea, and we certainly like the casting. We’ll just have to see what happens from here.
