‘Jessica Jones’ season 2 spoilers: Could alcoholism become a key story thread?
The second season of “Jessica Jones” is not going to be premiering on Netflix for quite a long time; as a matter of fact, we’re not sure that it will be on the air until after “The Defenders” premieres … and that won’t even be online until 2017.
The good news is that the long wait, however long it may be, is not keeping the show’s writers from speculating for what the future of the show could be. However, that does not mean anything in regards to how the writers are thinking about storylines; it’s something that they are continuing to do and think about, and that even includes the subject of Jessica’s problems with alcohol. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Melissa Rosenberg made it clear that this is a problem for Krysten Ritter’s character, but it may not be something that the show wants to explore for some time still:
“I think it is a problem for her currently … It is certainly an element in her life. It’s one of her issues. I don’t know if I’m interested in taking on alcoholism, but then again, you don’t know.”
Who knows? It’s certainly possible that this could be a storyline for season 3 or 4 … or it may not be a story at all. Maybe Jessica just continues to drink, and it makes some sense given everything that she has gone through since even before the show’s run with Kilgrave. The reality here is that this is a hugely successful show, and there’s plenty of time for producers to figure some of this stuff out.
