‘Days of Our Lives’ renewed for season 51 (!), NBC announces

NBCThe last remaining daytime drama on NBC is going to have a chance to stay dramatic for at least a little while longer. This week, the network revealed that they are going to have another season of “Days of Our Lives” coming up for the fall, its 51st on the air.

Just the sheer number of seasons for this show is something that is astounding in itself. How in the world does that happen? The only real answer that we can offer is that it’s a product of a lot of devotion from the show’s longtime audience. These are people who care deeply about the show and the characters, and find a way to continue watching even in this era of there being so much competition and DVR machines at the ready.

Back in its heyday, one of the real selling points for a show like “Days” was that there was not really anything else like it on the air. This meant that it had an opportunity to stand more on its own two feet, and also that there was demand simply because of a lack of supply. That’s clearly changed now, and this show, like so many others that are currently airing on TV, have to find the proper way in order to innovate. They’ve figured this out so far, and moving forward quality really is going to be the priority more so than anything else. If they can keep that up and keep people interested for some time in the future, they can keep the legacy of daytime dramas going for at least a little while moving forward.

For now, celebrate! There’s very little else to say.
