‘How to Get Away with Murder’ season 2, episode 10 review: Did Wes confront Annalise?
Tonight’s “How to Get Away with Murder” winter premiere had a near-impossible challenge: Trying to figure out a way to match the sheer craziness of the winter finale, where we learned that Wes was the one who shot Annalise Keating, and she also revealed that she knew a certain name from his past.
It took us until the very end of the episode to start to get some other answers in regards to the connection between her and Wes, but we still did not get everything. What we know for now is this: She knew his mother, and at one point in her life, she was also pregnant. There is still something deeper there that is so painful, she has stored it in the recesses of her head and does not want to let it out. She especially doesn’t want to with Wes.
The reality here that we see from this situation is that at one point, Annalise wanted to keep her child, but then something happened (maybe with Wes’ mother involved) to keep that from happening. In her dream-state in the closing minutes, we saw that the desire is still there to care for someone. Whether or not she is willing to admit that to herself without the drugs and without the pain remains to be seen.
Before the events of the final minutes, Annalise did enough to spare Caleb and Catherine of the worst possible fate by taking the stand, and for now, it appears as though some of the events there may be resolved … or at least as resolved as they can be for the show.
In the end, applause to “How to Get Away with Murder” for making an episode that was much more about the personal and emotional than the shock value. If more episodes were like this, we feel like we’d be talking about truly one of the best shows on TV. Grade: A-.
