‘Scorpion’ season 2, episode 17 review: Walter disapproves of Happy, Toby after ‘Quintis’ romance is revealed
Last week on “Scorpion” we saw that Happy and Toby’s relationship has moved to the next level as Happy was at Toby’s place late at night and wearing a bathrobe! Things seem to be getting serious and we can’t wait to see what happens for them next – perhaps we will seeing them living together at the end of this season? There’s a lot of comedy gold to be mined from these two going through the growing pains of cohabitation. Before we get to that, let’s look at tonight’s episode and see what’s in store for the team.
Toby and Walter are still in therapy and they are now using puppets to express their feelings. Things start to get heated when it comes out that Toby is hiding his romantic relationship with Happy from Walter. On the ride back to the garage Walter is silent and it’s likely because he’s made it perfectly clear to everyone that he doesn’t want there to be any romances at work. As soon as they are back at the garage, Toby tells Happy that their secret is out and she’s worried about the fall out from Walter, but Toby doesn’t want to sneak around anymore and announces to the garage that he and Happy are in love. The best part was that he called them “Quintis” which is the online “Scorpion” shipping term that fans have been calling them since the beginning. It was a nice to see CBS acknowledging the fans love of the couple – very cool move.
Walter thinks that Toby and Happy’s relationship is a distraction to the team and has given them an ultimatum by telling them that by the end of the mission, they have to make a decision: Break up and stay as part of the team or stay together and one of them will be fired. It’s true that Toby does put Happy before everything (including some of the missions), and Paige tries to tell him that there needs to be more of a focus on work while he’s at work. Toby calls out Paige on her negative response to their relationship, because he knows that if she accepts their romance then she and Walter have nothing to hide behind anymore because work relationships will be okay for everyone.
In the end Happy told Toby that he’s holding on to her too tightly and that if he keeps doing creepy things like putting tracking software on her phone then there will be nothing left to hold onto – a message that Toby hears loud and clear. Seems that Walter and Paige weren’t the only ones thinking that Toby was focusing too much on Happy! So did Toby and Happy break up for Walter? Nope, they tell him that he can either fire both of them or accept them in their relationship. Walter knows he can’t afford to lose them both, so he allows the relationship to stay intact.
With Toby and Happy able to keep their relationship and still work at the garage, this may open the door for Walter and Paige to explore their own feelings in the near future, or at least this is the hope.
