‘Agent Carter’ season 2: Hayley Atwell books new pilot; what does it mean?

Is Marvel’s “Agent Carter” close to coming to an end on ABC? Not necessarily, but we are seeing some definite evidence now that the show’s star in Hayley Atwell is looking to over all of her bases.

According to a report from TVLine, the actress is set to star in the new drama pilot “Conviction” for the network, where she will play the daughter of a powerful political family who will be taking on a lead role in Los Angeles’ Conviction Integrity Unit, one where she helps to work tirelessly to ensure that the right people are put behind bars from crimes. Through her work, she sometimes can pinpoint that the wrong person has been convicted of committing a crime. It’s an interesting role, and like with Peggy, this part gives her a chance to be somewhat of an atypical hero.

Now, what does this mean for the future of the Marvel show? Not too much. The aforementioned site reports that in the event “Agent Carter” is granted a third season, her schedule will be arranged in a way that she can do both shows at the same time. Of course, this would also require “Conviction” to be picked up beyond the pilot phase.

We certainly don’t blame Hayley for picking up another show, given that at the moment we’re not feeling incredibly optimistic about the future of “Agent Carter” on the air. Nobody can criticize the quality of the show, but at the same time there are also some other problems here, namely that the ratings have not been great for most of the season. (It has struggled to even reach a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic.)
