T.J. Miller teams up with Shock Top (again) to review Super Bowl Commercials
Here’s a novel idea: Creating a commercial with a company for the Super Bowl, and then after the fact posting another video “reviewing” some of the other commercials on the night. This is precisely what Shock Top decided to do with T.J. Miller, and you can see it all play out below.
Here’s the funny thing about it: We actually like this idea a lot more than the real commercial that Shock Top came up with themselves, since this was so much more chill and it gave Miller more time to do what he does best: Go on some rants about some of what he just saw. There are some good laughs in here, and from a branding perspective it’s still pretty clear that Shock Top are the folks behind the concept. That talking tap is still there!
Just in case you’re wondering how in the world such a video was possible to make overnight, our guess is that this was either filmed in advance or simply was prepared in advance, given that we’re in an age now where many commercials are released online days before they come on the air. Companies now try to build buzz for their commercials in advance, which is such a funny concept because for almost any other time of the year, they try simply to avoid doing anything to make people think they are watching a commercial. They’re desperate to have people not fast-forward on their DVRs.
You’re going to get a chance to see plenty of T.J. this spring on “Silicon Valley,” where hopefully he can get at least another step closer to joining the three-comma-club and having doors that go like this. We’ll give you more info as we have it.
