2016 Super Bowl Commercials: The Honda Ridgeline welcomes singing sheep

Super Bowl -Here’s a pro tip to most advertisers looking to create a memorable ad for a Super Bowl: Bring on board singing animals. So long as you do that, it’s hard to get angry at you. Thanks to that, we’ll at least say that Honda has come up with a fairly favorable big-game ad, where they promote the heck out of their new Ridgeline vehicle.

The idea – Basically, we have sheep singing “Somebody to Love” before eventually getting a chance to hop aboard the aforementioned truck. There’s no real twist or surprise here. Instead, this is really a commercial all about getting to watch animals sing and have a good time aboard what is apparently the truck of their dreams.

What works – Above all else, this is Honda doing some market research and giving the people what they want. You’re still featuring the car plenty, but you’re not just bringing a ton of mumbo-jumbo to the table that people don’t want to know about during the game.

What doesn’t – Maybe you don’t like the song? The only other thing we can tell you is that singing animals are not exactly a revolution in the commercial world. We’ve seen them a wide array of them over the years.

Grade – B. Hey, it’s not exactly a thinker, and it’s never going to be remembered as one of the greatest commercials in Big Game history as a result of that. At least it is effective at what is trying to do, and it has a reason to attract new viewers on YouTube after the game is over. There’s nothing people love on social media more than singing animals!
