2016 Super Bowl Commercials: Doritos strike again with dogs in disguise

Super Bowl -We said earlier on Super Bowl Sunday that Doritos had one of our favorite ads over the course of Super Bowl Sunday courtesy of an ultrasound gone terribly awry, but we also need to add in here something else we consider rather brilliant: Watching some dogs do almost everything that they can in order to ensure that they can buy some chips!

You can watch the full ad below, and we’ve also got our take on it, if you are so curious.

The idea – Some dogs determine that some Doritos are coming out of a grocery store, and in order to get some of their own, they enter the store in the classic three-dogs-in-one-trenchcoat costume. It’s a tired-but-true way to get great humor into an ad.

What works – It’s dogs! People love dogs! Also, it’s both cute and funny, which is a rare combination on Super Bowl Sunday. It’s a little more tame than the ultrasound ad, which means it will probably appeal to more people.

What doesn’t – Maybe you can claim that the whole trenchcoat bit is a little tired, but we’re not sure what else there is to criticize here! Great branding, a fun concept, and it gets in and out quickly.

Grade – A. Probably the best overall commercial we’ve seen so far for the game, at leas tin terms of bringing a ton of humor to the table. Doritos continues to be a winner at this game year after year with some of their outside-sourced ads.
