Puppy Bowl XII review: Chicken cheerleaders, a tortoise streaker and referee Dan Schachner
As it is a tradition every Super Bowl Sunday to get together with friends, eat pizza, drink beer and cheer on your favorite team, it has now become tradition for many people to start Super Bowl Sunday off watching the Puppy Bowl, so we are here to be your guide to all things “Puppy Bowl XII”.
We had a chance to catch up with Falcor in the “Puppy Bowl” pre-show (he scored 11 touch downs last year!) and he’s still as cute as ever! There were a new set of cheerleaders this year and it was the big haired chicken cheerleaders, which was a great addition to the show. We couldn’t help but laugh when we saw their big feathered heads bobbing across the screen – so good. We also had Surge the Hamster running the scoreboard like a total boss and Meep the bird Tweeting out all the action.
The big Puppy Bowl game is not the only main attraction today as we also have the Kitty Half-time show! This has always been a fun and ridiculous part of the event and in the past we’ve had some big named performers appear like Keyboard Cat as well as Katty Furry (a cat wearing a blue wig on a rotating pedestal and looking very unhappy). This year they had a San Francisco themed half time show as the kittens had a blast crawling from building to building. There wasn’t a big guest name this year and it definitely wasn’t their best half time show as the theme pictured these kittens as little terrors that will destroy the city (or possibly your home if you adopt them!). We would think that putting these kittens in a more flattering light rather then destroying San Francisco may have been a better way to go about it.
We also have to give a shout out to Dan Schachner the referee, who was fair to all and didn’t mind sharing the spotlight with Stanley the skunk (assistant referee) this year. Dan had his hands full this year as Posey the puppy had cold paws about playing in the Puppy Bowl, but after a loving push, Posey came out to play! “Puppy Bowl XII” had a lot of fun moments this year (including a tortoise streaker!), but we feel that they really missed out on a great opportunity with their kitty half time show this year.
