‘Billions’ episode 4 preview: Chuck scours for bad information on Axe
While “Billions” is a show that has introduced many a fascinating tangent (we would be rather satisfied if almost every episode were just about Maggie Siff’s character of Wendy), the core of the show can still be resolved with one simple question: Is it possible that we could eventually see Chuck Rhoades take down Bobby Axelrod? Chuck is a smart guy, someone with a proven track record, and also someone who clearly has the motivation and resolve to do whatever he can in order to take down anyone who is guilty of making money the wrong way in Wall Street.
Unfortunately for him, Axe has shown time and time again to be a very-tough nut to crack, and the sneak-peek below courtesy of Showtime is further proof of that. He presses hard in an effort to ensure that Pete Decker is going to give up some information on Axe’s deals, but we’re not sure that he gets the progress that he wants.
Is there still a reason why this scene is exciting?Sure, and a lot of it ties back to Paul Giamatti’s magnetic performance. You’re drawn to his story, or at least the parts of it that aren’t in the bedroom with all of the weird stuff. You want to see him take down the bad guys, but potentially not too soon. You knot that things are going to get so much worse for him before there is really any chance at all to start to put the wheels of justice in motion.
Tomorrow night, we’ll be back with a full review of this episode! (Yes, “Billions” is still airing despite the Super Bowl.)
