‘Orange is the New Black’ renewed by Netflix through season 7!
This has to be the news of the day that we never saw coming: “Orange is the New Black” is going to be celebrating its run on Netflix for quite some time. Specifically, think three more seasons beyond the upcoming fourth one. Has Netflix completely lost their marbles? It’s possible, or they’ve heard a plan from creator Jenji Kohan for the next few seasons that they really like.
In explaining their reason for this massive renewal through season 7, Netflix VP of Original Content Cindy Holland had the following to say:
“Jenji and her team have produced a phenomenal and impactful series that is both funny and dramatic, outrageous and heartfelt … Audiences around the world have come to love the ladies and men of Orange is the New Black, and we are eager to see where three more seasons will take them.”
There are very few shows out there that get a renewal for three more seasons beyond the current one; not even “The Big Bang Theory” has done that before the current seasons begins. The truth is, though, that as much as we do want to question Netflix for their decision, it’s hard to. As a company they don’t disclose ratings or other data, and as a result of this we have utterly no clue as to how much money they actually generate. This is all guess-work on our end, and we assume the renewal comes down to two separate things:
1. Kohan has an awesome plan, and seven seasons will be the life of the show.
2. It’s killing it in the ratings.
