Ratings: ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ falls further; ‘Shades of Blue,’ ‘American Idol’ drop

LegendsYesterday, we wrote that we really don’t like to sit around and write ratings articles where we only have bad news .. and of course, we roll around to tonight’s TV lineup where almost all we have is bad news.

Before that, let’s get to what may make some of you out there happy. Here’s a warning: It’s going to be short.

The winners – “Mom” stayed steady at a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is about even with the last new episode of the show. Meanwhile, “Life in Pieces” mad a nice improvement up to a 2.2. It’s certainly improving its odds at renewal, mostly because there aren’t exactly many other shows on CBS generating these sort of numbers right now.

The losers – “Legends of Tomorrow” (0.9) has now lost a pretty decent chunk of its premiere audience from a couple of weeks ago, which means to us that we’re not entirely sure what its future will be unless it starts to level off. Its biggest problem to us so far is that there’s no clear focus, and we think that where “Arrow” and “The Flash” shine is that you at least have a good idea who you are meant to focus on for the most part.

Also, “You, Me, and the Apocalypse” on NBC generated a 0.9 in its second rating, a number low enough to make us start to think that the apocalypse could be almost here. “Shades of Blue” later in the night hit a new series low with a 1.1, proving that not even a high-profile role for Jennifer Lopez can convince viewers to keep watching after “The Blacklist” (1.5).
