‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: Bringing the heat on Hades
The spring premiere of “Once Upon a Time” is coming up on Sunday, March 6, and given that we are heading to the Underworld for the second half of season 5, isn’t it appropriate that we run into Hades along the way? This famed character from Greek mythology will be making an appearance throughout the upcoming stretch of episodes and you can see the first photo of him below.
As for our take on it … well, let’s just say we’re not that positive. Greg Germann is a great actor who is more than capable of bringing him to life, but creatively the image suffers from the same thing that many on the show have as of late: An over-reliance on Disney. Maybe Anna and Elsa had to be similar thanks to “Frozen” being an all-encompassing franchise at the moment, but did we really need to make Hades so similar to the Disney “Hercules”? The fiery blue hair just doesn’t look good, and we think that the character really didn’t need it in order to look intimidating. Hopefully this is only something that pops up from time to time rather than having it be a permanent presence.
Speaking about playing the part, Germann said the following to Entertainment Weekly (who also posted the photo Thursday morning):
“Hades is such a fun, endlessly creative challenge … Anything goes. The creators bring him to life on the page with the same out-of-the-box unpredictability that they bring to the rest of the show. They strike the perfect balance between keeping things grounded and letting things fly — sometimes literally.”
So while we’re down a little on the creative direction for Hades, we’re still optimistic about the story of the Underworld itself. Speaking of story, why not head over here to get some other news about Belle?
