Pilot scoop: ‘Cruel Intentions’ continuation, ‘MacGyver’ remake move forward

Just in case you didn’t have enough remakes / revivals on TV already, we’ve got some further news for you on a pair of projects that have been ordered now to pilot.

“MacGyver” – Let’s start over at CBS, where there is going to be a new version of the classic drama series (which actually aired the first time around on ABC). This time, Paul Downs Colaizzo is writing a pilot about a MacGyver in his twenties who is recruited into a world where his talents come to be of great use. Henry Winkler is returning to executive-produce the new version, which has a good shot when you consider that the majority of the CBS drama lineup are either adaptations, remakes, revivals, or spin-offs in some shape or form. (Off the top of our head, “Blue Bloods,” “Code Black,” “The Good Wife,” “Madam Secretary,” and the original “Criminal Minds” are the exceptions. Even “Scorpion” had a small crossover with “NCIS: Los Angeles.”)

“Cruel Intentions” – Meanwhile, NBC is bringing back the classic Sarah Michelle Gellar – Reese Witherspoon movie for what appears to be a continuation of the original featuring at least some characters connected to the original cast. the synopsis below explains:

“Cruel Intentions picks up over 15 years after the hit movie left off. It follows the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil as she vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, the son of her brother, who was the late Sebastian Valmont, and Annette Hargrove. Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined.”
