‘Chicago Med’ episode 9 preview: Could Will Halstead lose his job?
There has been that expression out there in the past regarding doctors who like to “play god,” and the preview for “Chicago Med” next week definitely suggests that this may be something on the mind of Dr. Will Halstead. How else do you explain him blatantly ignoring a patient’s do-not-resuscitate order just so that he can try to find some other way to save her? In a way, we understand the motivation given that he wants to save lives, but he has to be cognizant of the people who want to be saved.
The official synopsis for the next new episode below, coupled with the promo, gives you a good sense of what to expect:
“Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) revives a ‘do-not-resuscitate’ terminally ill cancer patient, and the repercussions prompt his quick removal from the case and a pending lawsuit against Chicago Med. A homeless man’s arrival is passed down to April (Yaya DaCosta) and an uneager Dr. Reese (Rachel DiPillo), but the circumstances surrounding his short stay catch both off-guard. Following the assessment and treatment of a bi-polar patient with an unhealthy dependence for lithium, Dr. Choi’s (Brian Tee) own personal issues come to the surface, prompting him to seek the advice of Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt). The medical staff is shocked to learn one of their own has life-threatening disease.”
Of course we do want the best for Dr. Halstead as one of the show’s main characters, but at the same time we also have to wonder whether or not he will lose his job over this … and there are plenty of arguments why he should. It’s not like he made an honest mistake here and didn’t bother to correct it. You can see from the very start of this promo that he knew full well the scope of his actions.
