‘Gilmore Girls’ revival: Jared Padalecki status (still) uncertain
While we know already that most of the core “Gilmore Girls” cast, including Lauren Graham, and Alexis Biedel, is going to return for the upcoming revival on Netflix. However, there are still questions surrounding some of the others.
As reported yesterday, Melissa McCarthy has been offered a chance to return as Sookie in the event that she has room in her busy schedule, and for the time being, the jury is apparently also still out on Jared Padalecki (Dean) and some of the other guys from Rory’s past. Speaking to TVLine, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino made it clear that of course, she would love to have many of these guys back:
“Deals are not done yet. [Laughs] Even though we’re filming tomorrow. This is why I’m 100 years old. I just want to say… I’m 100. Our plan is to get as many of the lovely men back as possible. We’ve also had certain storylines we had to [tweak] because, apparently, there are still budgetary restrictions in Hollywood. I don’t understand that. I sort of feel like, ‘This is the story I want to tell, and somebody should just pay for it.’ [Laughs] Apparently, it doesn’t work like that. Very irritating. So, certain storylines — one of which involved one of the boys — had been taken out of our hands. We’re still dealing with who’s going to be in it. We definitely we want to see them. And we have storylines planned. I just need someone to tell me they’re going to show up.”
From our vantage point, we feel like scheduling has to be making thing all the more complicated with Padalecki in particular. We imagine that he loved his time on the show (he turned up at the ATX Television Festival for a recent reunion panel), but he’s also got a full-time job on “Supernatural.” He’d have to find either a weekend or a couple of days he is not filming in Vancouver to do something, and that’s not always easy given that he and Jensen Ackles are in the vast majority of the show.
Let’s hope everyone works something out; even a small Dean cameo would be enough to make the revival feel a little more complete.
We’ll have some other news on the revival as it starts to come out.
