Stephen Colbert’s post-Super Bowl ‘Late Show’ adds Megyn Kelly

Just in case there was any question that Stephen Colbert’s post-Super Bowl 50 episode of “The Late Show” would be interesting, we’ve now got the following news: Megyn Kelly is going to be one of the guests.

This news was first reported today by USA Today, which means that Colbert’s show now features her alongside such people as Tina Fey, Key & Peele, Will Ferrell, and Margot Robbie. It’s an interesting mix of relevant comedians, actors, and of course now a political newscaster and debate moderator.

The irony here is that Donald Trump boycotted the most-recent Fox News debate following a feud that first began with Kelly being announced as the moderator. The two have a history that dates back to this past summer, when she asked him questions that he did not appreciate regarding his comments towards women and other subjects. Trump continued to insult her journalism in the months to come, and he unintentionally made a star out of someone he didn’t like. The other irony is that Kelly’s profile among mainstream viewers has increased exponentially as a result of this feud, even though she is on a network with a reputation for being extremely conservative.

We imagine that Trump will be a hot topic for Colbert on the show, and we’ll see what Trump probably thinks about this decision on Twitter. (Our guess: He’s not a fan.) Trump himself has appeared on “The Late Show” in the past, and many of his comments have in particular made him a lightning rod for late-night comedy.
