‘Galavant’ season 3: Renewal hopes, alternatives, and more
Sunday night marks the epic conclusion of “Galavant” on ABC, which is of course a show that we are immensely excited to watch every time it is on.
Unfortunately, the reality for the show is this: The ratings are pretty bad. The show relentlessly has aired against heavy competition, and we ultimately feel like this is a tough one to advertise to casual viewers who may not understand what it is. As we wrote recently in a lengthy CarterMatt Extended article, many of them may be turned off be the medieval concept without realizing that the jokes are topical, current, and often brilliant.
While we’re not giving up on the show’s network TV future, we also have to be a realist in thinking that the odds are somewhat grim. Is there anything that can be done? Sure. First and foremost, encouraging everyone you know to watch and stream the ABC show is a nice start … to go along with tweeting about it often on social media. We feel like the network really likes the show, but generating 0.5 -0.6 ratings in the 18-49 demographic is challenging, to say the least.
In the event that the network does decide to end it, the next order of business could be to help fight to get the show another home. While we don’t want to speculate too much on this since the fate is still up in the air, Hulu would be a natural fit for “Galavant.” They already stream the show, and they are still in the process of really promoting some of their original content. We’d argue that they are still behind Amazon and Netflix in notable exclusives, and this could join “The Mindy Project” as one of their formidable acquisitions.

Go figure. My wife only likes live musicals… not on TV or in movies. My son likes British style comedy and dark superhero shows.
All three of us watch Galavant.
Hoping for a season 3.
