Ratings Bubble Report: Is ‘The 100’ season 3 on right path to renewal?
Today marks the final entry of our Ratings Bubble Report series, and we’re choosing to wrap things up today with a show that is still very early in its run on The CW: “The 100.” While only two episodes have aired of the third season so far, we’re already starting to get an indication that the network would be very silly to not pick up the show. Could that change over the rest of the season? Sure, but for now we have to go based on what we’re seeing.
At the bottom of this article, we’ll have a poll for you to voice some of your own thoughts on the subject!
The good news – Sure, we’re only two episodes into the season and the show has a great lead-in courtesy of “Legends of Tomorrow,” but so far it is averaging over a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s up a full tenth from the season 2 average, and specifically these episodes are up significantly from the ratings for the first two episodes of that season. All of this is encouraging.
Also, you cannot ignore the frequency of social-media trends based around the show. One of the best things The CW has done with this show is to keep the seasons shorter, that way the stories are tighter and it is easier for new viewers to catch up. There aren’t many other shows on network TV that are posting this sort of improvement, let alone CW ones.
The bad news – We suppose that you could claim that both “Legends” and a guest spot from singer Shawn Mendes helped to give season 3 a ratings bump, and that these numbers will likely decline over the course of the rest of the spring, especially once “Scandal” (the #1 show in the timeslot) returns on February 11. The reality is that the numbers probably will go down a little.
The other thing to consider here is just how solid the network schedule is as a whole right now. Everything on Tuesday and Wednesday is all but assured to come back, “Legends” is looking good, and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” has a chance thanks to Rachel Bloom’s Golden Globe win.
Renewal odds – High. While we’re not 100% certain of its return just yet thanks to it being so early in season 3, we don’t know how you can be anything other than confident after looking at the early numbers. People love the show, and they love to talk about the show. All of these are great signs.

Okay, someone decided to be a contrarian and vote that it shouldn’t be renewed…
