‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7, episode 10 reaction: Show boss on key Ian Somerhalder story

Damon -

Friday night’s new episode of “The Vampire Diaries” was certainly an intense your of television, and we say this specifically when it comes to Ian Somerhalder’s character of Damon. He spent the majority of the hour stuck in his version of hell due to the Phoenix Stone, and when he finally made it out of there, he didn’t believe where he was. He realized that his feelings for his mother Lily were more meaningful and heartfelt than he imagined, and this is some serious pain that he is going to have to deal with now.

So how will he handle everything that he learned through this Groundhog Day-esque process? Let’s just say that it is going to be something that takes a long period of time for him to figure out. Speaking to TVLine, here is what executive producer Caroline Dries had to say:

“Even though Damon has escaped hell … [when] you exit that Phoenix Stone, you’re a changed person … What we get to see in the next episode is Damon really really mess things up. Stefan, who had his own journey that we didn’t see — and we’re not going to see the way we saw with Damon — has been through that. We’re trying to create a bit of intrigue; Stefan has survived it and learned some lessons from it, but can Stefan warn Damon in time of what it means to actually get out of there? It’s sort of Damon’s hell on earth now, moving forward.”

While we feel for the other characters who are going to have to deal with Damon in the near future, at the same time we’re really looking forward to seeing what happens here. He could lead a reign of terror, or who knows? Maybe a softer side will emerge eventually.
