‘Daredevil’ season 2, episode 13 review: How will Karen react to Matt’s Daredevil secret?
We are at the end – the finale of “Daredevil” season 2 and there has been a lot that has happened this season and we do mean a LOT. With only one episode left we aren’t exactly sure how they are going to tie up all of these loose ends (and there are many), but we are looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
Brett has been roughed up and asked Foggy for legal counsel (Side note: If you are fans of “Jessica Jones” then you were probably excited to see Hogarth offering Foggy a position at her firm earlier this episode). He tells Foggy that the assailants wanted police files on everyone Daredevil ever saved, so that they can use them to draw Daredevil and Elektra out. Nobu’s men have everyone on the list, including Karen. What we love about Karen is that even when she’s in the position of “being a victim” she’s never really a victim, so she convinces the guy next to her to put his tracking device on so his PO officer can find them. Unfortunately when they show up they can’t do much about the onslaught of ninjas, but it give Daredevil and Elektra enough information to find out where everyone is being held.
When they get to the warehouse, Matt wants to save the hostages where as Elektra reminds him Nobu is the real target and if they go into that trap then Matt will be dead and she will be used by the Hand to destroy the world. Matt doesn’t listen and frees the hostages and Elektra eventually comes to help. They get trapped on the roof, but before the ninjas bust through the door to kill them, Matt has a heart to heart with Elektra, telling her that if they make it out of this alive that he wants to go where ever she goes, because no one understands and accepts this part of Matt like she does. She says yes and suggests leaving New York and we were more then a little surprised to see Matt so easily give up the city he’s sworn to protect for a life with Elektra.
They finally face off against Nobu and Elektra gets herself killed so that the Hand will never have her and she finally feels redemption, because she did something to help others that didn’t involve killing anyone else. It wasn’t much of a surprise that Elektra died considering that there’s not much of a show if Matt leaves the city. Matt eventually throws Nobu off a building and with Punisher’s help, Matt survives. So is Nobu dead? Of course not, you cannot kill what doesn’t live… or can you? Nobu survives the fall, but Stick is waiting on the ground and cuts off his head, so that’s the end of that.
So where does this leave us going into season 3? Nelson and Murdock is over, Karen is working at the Bulletin, Frank has burned his family home down and has become the Punisher (moving into his own Netflix series), the Hand has dug up Elektra’s body to put her in the magic immortality egg and last but not least Matt exposed his Daredevil secret to a very shocked Karen. This finale left a lot of nice loose ends without things being totally spelled out for next season, but what we really want to know is how Karen is going to handle the news that Matt is Daredevil. Episode grade: B-
