‘The X Factor’ UK, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ boss on ITV steps down
We’re going to see a changing of the guard coming up on ITV, and it is certainly going to be interesting to see whether or not this has any sort of far-reaching implications when it comes to some of the shows that air there.
In a statement today, it was announced that Elaine Bedell, who oversaw much of the reality TV programming from “Britain’s Got Talent” to “The X Factor” to “I’m a Celebrity,” is stepping down after seven years on the job. This could mean that her successor will have to navigate the future for many of these shows, and that includes signing a deal with Simon Cowell. What happens in Britain, like America, influences much of the rest of the entertainment world, so it will be interesting to see just what ends up happening here.
In a statement, Bedell had the following to say about her time at the network:
“I more or less arrived at ITV at the same time as Susan Boyle – and from that extraordinary audition moment on, it has been the most exhilarating seven years. I’ve had the privilege of being closely involved with some of the very best entertainment and comedy talent in the UK and worked with some exceptional producers – as well as the brilliant, unbelievably hard-working teams here at the Network. I’m very proud of our output, but seven years is a long time to be a commissioner and it’s time for me to move on and let someone else make their mark. I wish [upcoming network head Kevin Lygo] all the very best – I know he will do a great job.”
