‘Supernatural’ season 11, episode 11 video: Jensen Ackles’ Dean gets some advice

What is the meaning of life? The quantitative answer would of course be “42,” but the answer in the context of the real world it is far more complex. Based on what Jensen Ackles’ Dean is told in the latest sneak peek below from Wednesday night’s new episode of “Supernatural,” it is apparently to “follow your heart.”

We really like this sneak peek, mostly because it is a nice signal to where we are at this point in the series’ run. While Sam and Dean Winchester have certainly learned quite a bit regarding why they are and what they want out of the world, have they actually gotten any answers on anything in the process? We’re not entirely sure of that. They’ve instead just found more pain, more loss, and at times more heartache … and it never seems to end. Questions of endgame are something we have to ponder in season 11, regardless of whether or not we want to.

In some ways, there is a part of us that imagines that the Winchesters are these wayward souls, giving up on anything normal in order to continuing fighting the good fight for all eternity. Maybe they never stop, even if the show does. Or, who knows? Maybe they find a way to pass the torch and try to discover what a normal life is like.

Now that we’re doing pontificating … let’s just say that we love the ending of this scene, as well. Jensen’s response to it seems totally genuine, almost as if he never expected the moment to even happen.
