‘American Idol 15’ video: Trent Harmon tries to impress judges despite battling illness
Hollywood Week on “American Idol” season 15 is set to start on Wednesday night, and it is going to kicking off with someone in Trent Harmon who definitely impressed during his first audition. When we first heard his story about working as a waiter for a small little restaurant on a farm in Mississippi, the easy assumption to make was that he was going to be doing some sort of country audition. However, that turned out to not be the case!
In the video below, you can hear him perform “Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith to great acclaim … but also while facing a ton of adversity. Right before performing he got a call from his doctor, who told him that he has mono. Basically, the only real treatment for that is staying hydrated and getting a lot of rest … and this is unfortunately one of the most exhausting weeks of the entire season for the hopefuls.
While the good news is that we’re more-than-confident Trent will make it through to the next phase of the competition on the strength of this performance, at the same time there are other problems that he could face in the Group Round. Is he going to be able to rehearse with a few other singers until the middle of the night? Will they resent him for his actions? All are worthy questions, and we don’t have a firm answer right now.
Still, we do very much think that Trent is a contestant worth watching, and we’ll be keeping a close watch on how he fares over the rest of the process.
