‘Castle’ season 9 plans to wrap up LokSat, Rick’s disappearance, more by finale
For everyone out there wanting some closure on “Castle,” rest assured that it is coming regardless of whether or not there is a season 9. Perhaps feeling the desire for either new mythology or to go back to some of the cases that made the show popular in the first place, the showrunners are making it clear that they are ready to close the door on much of what has remained at the core of the show at the end of the season.
Speaking on this subject to TV Guide, executive producer Alexi Hawley detailed precisely why many of these stories are ready to go the way of the dodo:
“LokSat is definitely getting resolved at the end of this year … Our hope was to take all the threads — the conspiracies, Sen. Bracken, Castle’s missing time– and really tie them off in a compelling, satisfying way, so that in Season 9 we can tell really compelling standalone stories and leave the conspiracy part of it behind. I think ultimately those stories are about played-out.”
It’s interesting, but we feel like in the era of so many great serialized shows, the procedural is making a little bit of a comeback. Sometimes, viewers don’t care about a standalone episode provided that you tell a great story that feels unique and is memorable months down the road. This is why there is so much enthusiasm right now around the return of “The X-Files,” a show that has always done tremendous stuff with standalone hours.

It appears the studio is ready to pull the curtain on Castle. I’m sure a surge in the ratings might give ABC second thoughts but once the demo numbers drop they seldom if ever go up.

This doesn’t make me happy if it means the inane, stupid fake separation is going to last for the rest of the season. Yeeccchhh!!
